Ray Crosby Volunteer Award
River Heights Community Centre is proud to recognize and award Mr. BYRNES BENOIT with The Ray Crosby Volunteer Recognition Award. Byrnes has filled many volunteer roles throughout over 16 years of dedicated volunteerism. His volunteer career includes Soccer Coach & Team Manager (1990-1998), Hockey Team Manager (1992-2002), Ringette Team Manager (1993-1996), Hockey Team Manager / Safety Trainer for Male / Female Teams (1998-2002), Hockey Convenor (1999-2001), Director of the Board - Vice President - Finance (2001-2004), Board President (2005-2006), and Past President (2007).

for sport and recreation in the River Heights Community.

This award will be present yearly in remembrance of Ray Crosby who dedicated over twenty years of his life to serving River Heights Community Centre as a coach, convener, archivist, Cardinal publisher, volunteer coordinator, president, board member, and advocate for community centres. His selfless devotion, his fairness and respect for all whom he met, his above and beyond dedication to every task, his determination to have affordable programming, and the human decency he displayed while being a fierce advocate for the community will always be remembered.
Award Criteria. The winner of this award will be the person who best meets most of the following criteria:
- Embodies the values of River Heights Community Centre by promoting excellence in performance and conduct, fairness, and is devoted to the community.
- Has significantly enhanced an existing program or has developed a new program which significantly enhances River Heights Community Centre.
- Has served the River Heights Community Centre in more than one of the following
- event planning
- coaching (preference given to coaching multiple sports and age levels)
- convening
- program development with an emphasis on serving all ages through both athletic and non-athletic programming.
- communications
- board level
- fundraising
- advocacy
- building maintenance and enhancement
This award CANNOT BE presented to the following:
- A current board member
- A person who has only coached his or her own child.
Process
- Each Spring, a Ray Crosby Volunteer Award Selection Committee will be created, consisting of:
- The committee will have a minimum of three members.
- The RHCC general manager will be on the committee, along with a minimum of two other people who may be drawn from the board and/or the community at large.
- Nominations will be solicited from the community by the following:
- Advertisements on the marquee.
- Emailing to those on the email contact list, which will include the Selection Committee’s contact information.
- Advertising within RHCC, which will include the Selection Committee’s contact information.
- The Selection Committee will present its nomination for the Board’s ratification at the April board meeting.
- The recipient winner be presented with the award during the Family Fun Carnival.
Recognition of the Recipient
- The recipient’s name will be engraved onto a Ray Crosby Volunteer Award plaque that will be next to a plaque honouring Ray Crosby. In addition, each recipient will receive a plaque honouring his or her volunteer time and commitment to River Heights Community Centre.
The recipient will be congratulated on the marquee, in the fall issue of the Cardinal, and on the RHCC website.
